RE: GpS/Xm Radio Signals

I have Xmradio with Onstar on my Silverado. For the most part, I get reception quite well. There are times when momentarily I will lose GPS signal and I think I have figured it out to be when I am pointed North.

RE: Happi Jacks?? Tell me all about them, please

Beware of the wired remote control. I had nothing but trouble with the rj11 connections. Finally, upgraded to the wireless remote and since then things have been great.
My two cents...your mileage may vary :W

RE: Centering guides - Jack Damage?

Unfortunately, TC manufacturers may charge use 4 or 5 times the cost of the materials for this added "standard equipment". I wonder why my RV dealer did not suggest this during the walk thru?

RE: GMC 3500 dually and an 1150 Artic Fox

What have you done so far?
I have a gmc 3500 srw with a 3000 pound trailer in the bed. First trip felt like riding a roller coaster until I put a set of Timbren's on the rear axle. Rides fine now

RE: Leaving camper on truck

Mine comes off after the trip. Use the truck as a "second" car plus it makes life easier hauling other cargo than in the back of a jeep

RE: Centering guides - Jack Damage?

Ok, now that I've gone through the load/unload process a few times now, I am interested in what I can do to get the camper perfectly centered - yes, I know, i'm being anal-retentive. Yeah yeah yeah, so what!
I've been looking at some member's centering guides, and my question is this: Wouldn't the centering guides that actually shift the camper to get it centered be putting lateral stress on the jacks when it shifts? I can't seem to find this issue addressed.
At home in my driveway, it's actually fairly easy, because my driveway is pretty level. I just have marks where the tires are supposed to go, and marks where the jacks go. But on a recent trip, we used levelling blocks on the truck to get the camper level. We unloaded the camper to take a day trip, and when we returned wanted to load it again. I simply drove up onto the levelling blocks, but when I did that it shifted the truck so much I was pretty much off every time. I finally had to remove the blocks, load the camper on the angle, then pull forward and re-set the blocks, drive back up on them, and lower the jacks to stabilize. What a pain.
There HAS to be a better way to do this.
I don't know if my way is better but I do believe in simplicity (aka the KISS principle)
I have a piece of duct tape on the TC at dead center of the body. I then have a piece of duct tape straight down the middle of the bed of the truck. I may have to compensate for a 1/2 inch here or there but I am able to load the TC by myself at this point and have it centered. (this includes saucer seps at the campsite as well)

RE: Happijac Problems

I'm another proud owner of Happijacs. I went to unload the camper last weekend so that I could finish waxing it and only one jack would lower. After pressing all the buttons to try to get the jacks to move, they finally moved but only once or so. I had to manually crank the jacks back up. The last time I lowered the jacks was about a month ago.
I checked the fuses and the connections and everything was tight. I read that the contacts for the cord could be dirty, so I sprayed it with some electrical contact cleaner. Plugged it in and now the light on the remote doesn't come on. All the fuses were good and there is power going into the control module.
I'm thinking the remote or cord is damaged. Any ideas on what may be wrong? I'm sure a few people have had similar problems hence the name "Crappijacs".
I hear you on this one. I too had the same situation, tried different cords (from Happijack of course), cleaned contacts, etc. I even took a multimeter to the processor board to verify voltages and checked each fuse. Nuttin.
My solution? I upgraded to the wireless remote and all is well.

RE: Fuel prices making you change your plans?

Everyone's situation is different. It depends on your priority and how long you think you will live. If you don't do it now you may never do it. It is also a time to focus on higher quality...saving your fuel for really important trips. Whcih is better, one long trip to a place you alweays wanted to go? Or a lot of short trips? To each his own. We will be traveling in B.C. this summer and next year to Alaska. If that means cancel the newspaper subscription and other things, so be it.
I follow along with your thinking. We are empty nesters with no grandchildren on the horizon. We would just as soon do the travel now while we are in our 50's when we are mobile and can enjoy it. Even if it means a little deficit spending. One of my motto's is I would rather be in my rocking chair talking about the great life I had rather than talking about the things I wish I had done.

RE: ~Post your campsite photos here~

Ron44 what is the name of the CG in your Keene Lake pics? I googled it as we'll as checked rvparkreviews and can't find it. Thanks.
I recognized the pictures (I think I was on the same site 5 years ago). The website is http://www.keenlake.com/
Our family had a great weekend. We went to Steamtown (national park) and the kids loved it. Ample RV parking as well.:)

RE: dumping tanks

I too have the same problem. I usually use 3 leveling blocks in a 2 + 1 setup under the front tires with 4 wheel drive. Works fine for me. The wife and I have a carefully orchestrated "dance" at the dump station.
She and I place the levelers (left is my side/right is hers).
She then goes and deploys the "dirty" hose from a water spigot to the rinse connector while i pull up on the blocks.
I then hookup the hose to the sewer and pull the black.
She then turns on the water for the rinse.
I pull the grey.
She wraps up and stores the hose.
I close the valves and store the "blue" hose (she never wants to even touch it or see it)
She pulls the truck forward off the blocks and retrieves/stores them. Then she slides over to the passenger seat while i do a final walkaround.
And then (sound of the theme from Batman the TV series) atomic batteries to power and turbines to speed and we are off. :W
I think it is great that you and the wife work as a team.
Wayne
For the first 20 years, couldn't get her out of the passenger seat. Now she volunteers. Must be something about having breakfast on the road on Sundays. :W

Coming up on 24 years. I once met a couple on a cruise that were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. I asked the husband what his secret was to a successful marriage and his answer was "say yes and just do what you want anyway" :h

RE: Tow/Haul Setting on Chevy 2500HD

I too have been using my tow/haul mode whenever the camper is in the bed. In addition to the shift points changing, while going downhill depending on how much brake you may use, the tranny will also downshift to give you engine braking as well.

RE: HappiJac controller not working

try spraying electrical cleaner at the plug where the wire connects on the camper, not on the control that is hand held.Been there done that that should do it if the juice is there to run it
Where can you get this "electrical cleaner"? Is there a brand name?

RE: HappiJac controller not working

I too have been having problems with my controller's wiring in my HappiJac. Fortunately, I have been able to bring the controller back to life by using extra RJ11 plugs I had in my toolbox which seem to align/clean the contacts in the controller.
My more permanent solution is to install the wireless system and get away from the telephone cord (and its quirks) entirely.
